Andrea was chosen from a small group of students to have her illustrations appear in a deaf studies dictionary utilized by Gallaudet University Regional Center.

Bobbie Smith
When people ask Bobbie, “What made you want to be a hair stylist?” she has one answer: Her Barbie Dolls. As a young girl, she spent countless hours combing and styling her collection of Barbie Dolls to perfection, just to line them up and admire what she created.
Because it became apparent at such an early age that beauty was her true passion, she attended cosmetology school immediately. Since the moment she graduated in 2001 she has dedicated her time to perfecting her craft. She’s a firm believer in continuing education and staying on top of the latest trends.
In 2013 she was exposed to creative cutting, and completing a series of cutting courses at the Prive SoHo Academy in New York City. It was there she trained under top celebrity hair stylists. This came with an amazing opportunity to work New York City Fashion Week, styling models backstage for the runway. It was a real life Barbie Doll dream come true!
Her next creative venture came when she fell madly in love with the art of Balayage. After completing a series of courses at the L’Oréal Professional Academy in New York City, she became a Certified Balayage stylist. As she continues to dive into the world of Balayage, her clients have grown to love how she expertly places her hand painted highlights and they enjoy the multidimensional looks she creates just for them.
Bobbie spends her time at Shanti both working behind the chair, and training other young stylists at the salon in color education. She’s doing what she loves best: Making others feel beautiful. Follow Bobbie on Instagram

Lauren Magnifico
Lauren has a natural ability to cut and style hair. Her passion, however, is being able to utilize her skills to help people. It only makes sense, then, to know that Lauren is not just a skilled hair stylist—but a registered nurse as well. “To me, hair and nursing are very similar. I’m always helping people one-on-one. It’s just a different set of needs being addressed.”

From shags to pixies, and bobs to beards, Lauren loves all types of cutting. She also loves color and is trained in balayage and other creative techniques. “The most important part of the service is the consultation,” Lauren says. “I pride myself on a thorough and thoughtful discussion before we begin.”

Lauren studied cosmetology at the Aveda Institute in Manhattan, followed by an extensive apprenticeship at a boutique salon in Brooklyn. It was there — working with an eclectic staff, demanding clients, and a fast-paced salon culture —where Lauren honed her skills and laid the groundwork for becoming the stylist of her dreams. Lauren is thrilled to bring her New York training back home to Newburyport. “I love feeling part of this little community.”

When Lauren is not making great hair, she’s spending time with her husband, John; baby boy, Milo; and Boston terrier, Stella.
